Trumpapalooza V (Bridge, Spades, Hearts and more!)

Today is an 'open' event. Although we'll be focusing on trick-taking games, all games are welcome.

It's time for another Trumpapalooza! We'll be celebrating the wonderful world of trick-taking games. From Briscola to Bridge, we'll be doing it all today! Join us for some yummy food and a few cold drinks at Bruegger's in Melrose for some fun with some great people. Laurel has graciously offered to host today's event.

  • Bridge is perhaps one of the most well-known card games in America today. Bridge is one part social gathering, one part game and one part competition, and we'll have tables for beginners and experts alike!
  • Hearts is one of the most popular card games, as it is taught to many children, and it is included as a game on most modern computers. biggrin
  • Spades was introduced in Cincinnati, OH, sometime between 1937 and 1939. From there, it spread to other cities in the general region and eventually into the military. Today, the game has seen an increase in popularity due to online card rooms and tournaments, and with our group it has been no exception...
  • Briscola is one of the our more popular games. The Italian game is popular because it is simple to learn, yet requires a lot of skill to master. Finding a teacher is quite easy -- just ask any of the C&C veterans biggrin

or would you like something different?

  • Euchre
  • Setback
  • Pinochle
  • Oh Hell!

Here's a list of trick-taking games... choose your favorite!

HOW TO GET THERE

We'll be meeting at Bruegger's Bagel Bakery in Melrose. This location has nearly everything you could ask for in a location... space to play, free parking, food and drink, and not-too-crowded restrooms.

By Subway: Access to Melrose via public transportation on a Sunday is kind of spotty, but it is doable. Take the Orange Line to Oak Grove and take the 136 bus. On Sunday's this bus leaves Oak Grove at 11:45am and 1:15pm, and will drop you off in downtown Melrose a couple building from the event location. Here's the 136 schedule: http://www.mbta.com/s...

By Car: Melrose is easily accessible from Rt. 93, Rt. 1 and Rt. 28. Bruegger's is in the heart of downtown Melrose, located on Main Street. Plenty of free parking is available behind the building. Here's a link to Google Maps for directions: http://maps.google.co...
