For the next couple of weeks, we'll be showcasing some events from Mass Fun and Games, a new social networking group south of Boston. After that, they'll be on the Mass Fun site only, so if you are interested in this location, please hop on over and sign up!
Mass Fun and Games will be "shopping for fun" at the new Whole Foods Market in Legacy Place Mall, Dedham for a night of good food and entertainment. We've reserved a couple of tables, so we are set for a fun evening. What other Meetup group can you join where you can play a board game and buy groceries afterwards?
This is an open event, so please bring your favorite card and board game, but here are some ideas of the games you may find tonight:
- Cribbage is an English pub game that is still popular, barely changed from when it was created over 300 years ago. If you play, bring your cribbage board.
- Mahjong is a game for four players that originated in China. In the game, each player is dealt either thirteen or sixteen tiles in a hand, depending on the variation being played. On their turn, players draw a tile and discard one, with the goal of making four or five melds (also depending on the variation) and one pair, or "head". Winning comes "on the draw" by drawing a new or discarded tile that completes the hand. Thus, a winning hand actually contains fourteen (or seventeen) tiles.
- Backgammon is a game of luck and skill. It is played by two people with 15 checkers each on a board consisting of 24 spaces or points. The checkers are moved according to rolls of the dice. Each player tries to bring his own checkers home and bear them off before his opponent does, hitting and blocking the enemy checkers along the way.
- Apples to Apples is always a blast when you get a bunch of fun people together!
We'll start at 7:00pm, but you can come early to get something off of their yummy foodbar, or come later if you need the extra time.
