About Our Group

Originally conceived as a small card-playing group in based in Melrose, Boston Cards and Conversation has now become the largest general gaming group in the Greater Boston area. Our members believe that one of the most effective ways of meeting people is through playing games. Games are inherently social, and are a natural way to get to know people (and have fun doing it!) In the last year, countless numbers of personal and professional relationships have been made at our events.

Although many of our events consist of playing card and board games at restaurants in the area, we also do other fun activities. We've played miniature golf, went sailing, and even gotten lost in a corn maze. So there's always something for everyone at C&C!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to be an expert at [insert game here]?
A: Absolutely not! To many members, the games are not the primary focus of our group. We are not just about playing cards and board games -- they are merely a means to get people together, make friends, and have some fun. Some of our members just prefer to chat and socialize, and don't play any games at all! Many of our events are spent learning and trying out new games -- so we are all beginners in a sense.

Q: Will I be able to play [insert game here]?
A: Yes, if there is enough interest. All card and board games are welcome at our open events. Just bring it to an event... most of our members are always interested in learning new games.

Q: Where do you meet / play?
A: Initially, we started the group at coffee shops and restaurants in the Melrose / Malden area. The location of our first meetup, Bruegger's Bakery in Melrose, continues to be popular. A majority of our meetups happen at Not Your Average Joe's in Medford, as we have our own private space, and is easy to reach by car and by subway.

Today, we're holding events further south and within Boston, and we're constantly experimenting with new locations all over the area. If you have a suggestion for a location that could handle 10-15 people, please let us know, and we'll check it out!

Q: Do you have a participation policy?
A: Yes -- we ask that all members participate in group events on an occasional basis. Please check out our participation policy for more information.

Q: I see a lot of joint meetups with Mass Fun and Games on your calendar... are they part of Boston Cards and Conversation?
A: Mass Fun and Games is our sister site for members who like south and west of Boston. We have very similar goals, so you may be interested in one or both groups, depending on your travel preferences.

Q: Is this a singles/dating/matchmaking group?
A: Although many of our members are single, both singles and couples of all ages are welcome. We've seen quite a few "love connections" made and many friendships forged since the group was founded over a year ago.

Q: Are there any fees for joining the group?
A: There are no mandatory fees for our events at this time. If you enjoy the group and become a regular attendee, we recommend a donation of $1/event to cover website expenses.
